How this started......
I have been teaching for the last six and a half years and have often hear/over hear things that students say that either flabbergast me or make me want to absolutely piss myself laughing, or both, when I really should be acting like the adult in the room and demonstrating "proper" behaviour.
Sometimes (only ever in my year 12 classes) I really just I just laugh.
I would like to point out I make a point of laughing with the students and the misconceptions that make me laugh I endeavour to clear up.
This year I have had some absolute pearlers that have pushed me to start documenting these for posterity. Starting with that story:
Sitting in my year 12 general class, we were discussing people discovering different countries when one student made the joke about Americans thinking that Columbus discovering Australia. Another kid piped up "Columbus....was he the one with the boat with all the animals?"
The rest of the class was in hysterics.
My Response: "No I think you mean Noah" this continued
Student: "So how did he fit all those animals in a boat"
Class: tears of laughter streaming down faces
Me: "ummmm..."
Student: " And how did all the animals know to go to the boat anyway?"
Class: on the floor holding their sides
Me: "Ok, do you know what a parable is?"
So I'm going to open a blog post each day and see what comes of this. Sometimes I will add in old ones as they come to mind.
